This workshop focuses on community needs after an emergency, and will prepare libraries to actively function as disaster recovery centers by partnering with emergency responders and providing vital resources to the community. Hear firsthand how libraries in Queens County, NY and New Jersey responded to Hurricane Sandy. Learn what role your library can play in educating communities on disaster preparedness, and review the resources available via the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) Emergency Preparedness & Response Initiative.

UCLA Library provides 500 dual-boot laptops for short-term loan to students, faculty and staff. Each laptop has Mac and Windows OS and software packages in support of instruction and research. Library staff share the workflow and logistical details for preparing software, imaging the machines, tracking software licensing, processing lending through Voyager and maintaining the hardware and software. Usage, security and assessment information for the laptops will also be shared. This workshop will help participants plan for similar services in their own libraries.
