A Model for Engaging Library Staff to Expand Services and Programs for Spanish-speakers in public and academic libraries. Many libraries recognize the importance of reaching out to their Spanish-speaking community, but most have difficulty implementing a practical model that allows for staff involvement system-wide. This session offers the tools needed to strengthen staff and volunteer participation in your library to expand services to the Spanish-speaking public. We will discuss the process for creating teams and successful community partnerships, obtaining feedback through surveys and forums, and providing programming resources for staff. We will also discuss ACRL's Diversity Standards for Academic Libraries.

Attendees will learn how to successfully implement a strategic plan that increases staff involvement in their library in order to expand programs and services for their Spanish-speaking community. They will gain programming ideas and resources, learn strategies to enhance their outreach and external partnerships, and develop ways to evaluate outcomes and performance. Academic librarians will learn ideas about how to promote diversity within their academic campuses. How to promote language diversity in an academic setting? How can we better serve our international students?
